State-of-the-Art Mammography

Takoma Regional Hospital has cutting-edge technology to better detect cancer in women especially those with dense breast tissue. We use Fuji's state-of-the-art full-field digital mammography unit with the highest resolution available today (50 microns).

The benefits of this new equipment include:
  • Better Detection for Dense Tissue
  • Improved Patient Comfort
  • Shorter Examination Times
  • Twice the resolution of other Digital Mammography
  • Sharper Clearer Images
  • Greater Peace of Mind
  • Close to Home

“This new equipment will enable us to see the tissue underneath the breast and will help us save more lives,” Dr Raymond Kohne, the hospital’s medical director of radiology, said. “We want the best possible images because our patient’s lives are in our hands. This new mammographic equipment has dramatically enhanced our ability to find small cancers that were previously undetectable. These are the best and clearest images I have seen.”

Similar to digital photography, this new system offers the highest resolution currently available. Higher resolution enables radiologists to see greater detail within the soft tissue of the breast and this produces a more accurate diagnosis. Digital mammography is a superb tool for “finding those cancers that are hiding,” he said. “And if we can catch it early enough, we can get a cure for the patient – not a survival rate.”
